University 330 – Required Course for New PAs

University 330: Peer Leadership, PAs

Spring 2015 Semester
Friday, February 6, 2015- Friday, May 8, 2015 8:30am-12:00pm

University 330 is the required course all newly selected Peer Advisors will take during the spring 2015 semester. Applicants must commit to attending every class meeting in order to become a Peer Advisor.

University 330 is currently closed and will be reopened during the new Peer Advisor Selection process in the Fall semester.

Course Description:

The University 330: Peer Leadership course is designed to prepare students to serve as University 100/150 Peer Advisors. Peer Advisors co-teach University 100: Introduction to Mason and University 150: First Year LLCs, one credit courses designed to help students transition to college successfully. The course will provide Peer Advisors with the necessary information, tools, and resources to co-teach University 100 effectively and successfully.

Learning Goals and Competencies:

  • To have a working knowledge of campus resources and how to utilize them
  • To be comfortable serving as a resource to others
  • To be knowledgeable about the Center for Academic Advising, Retention & Transitions’ services and general student academic affairs knowledge
  • To understand the issues of first year transition and be able to respond accordingly
  • To recognize the strengths and challenges you have as a leader
  • To be able to recognize, manage, and value diversity as a leader
  • To help create a community that recognizes and embraces the value of every student
  • To be familiar with the University 100/150 competencies and be able to integrate them into the University 100 curriculum
  • To understand the technology necessary to connect with students in your University 100/150 class
  • To develop a network of supportive peers, faculty, and staff who will assist you in your role as a Peer Advisor
  • To grow and learn from this experience, in a way that will benefit you both personally and professionally
  • To better understand yourself
  • To have FUN!
